Monday 15 July - Richard Cheetham
How does modern science interact with Christian faith and belief?
Richard Cheetham has had a long interest in the relationship between science and religion. With a degree from Oxford and a doctorate from King’s College, London he is well qualifiedto bring to MoMENtum a personal reflection on the interaction between science andChristian faith and belief.
Everyone is deeply affected by modern science from the way we see and understand the world to the many practical results of science both beneficial, like vaccines, and harmful, like atomic bombs. Many areas of science, such as AI and genetics, are developing very quickly with enormous implications for all life. It’s crucial that we have a good understanding of scientific method, and how it interacts with our deep beliefs and values.
As an ordained minister Richard has served in parishes in Newcastle and Luton becoming Bishop of Kingston in 2002. He is currently a Co-Director of Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science (ECLAS), and a member of the Anglican Communion Science Commission. He is also part of the clergy team at St Martin’s Dorking.
